WHO IS THE D7 VISA PORTUGAL FOR?

If you can prove means of subsistence in the form of passive income this visa could be for you. What is “Means of Subsistence”? A monthly source of income from fixed assets, retirement annuity, source of income from remote passive work, or capital investments creating a return is needed for this application.

How much is needed to qualify?

To be eligible for the D7 visa you must prove that you have income amounting for 12 months: €7,200 for the main applicant, €3,600 for each additional adult, andΒ  €2,160 for each child application. Additional to this you need to have a Portuguese bank account with funds available as stated below. These are 2021 amounts and may change. Please ask your consulate for the updated monetery requirements.

DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR THE D7 VISA for PORTUGAL:

  1. Valid Passport with copy of the Main Page.
  2. A Recent colour ID Photograph.
  3. National Application Form – Complete in Full and Sign.
  4. Copy of Reserved Electronic Aeroplane Ticket, this will confirm your Date of Departure.
  5. Travel Medical Insurance. If you have Discovery Health, they can provide this for you.
  6. Proof of Accommodation: this is normally a lease for 1 year. You would need to confirm this with your consulate as each consulate has different accommodation requirements.
  7. Police Clearance Certificate. 3 months or less from date of issue.
  8. A Request for Portuguese Criminal Registry (SEF)
  9. Proof of Means of Subsistence.
    • A Bank Account in Portugal. There are 2 Portuguese Branches of Banks in South Africa – Caixa and Millennium. Its up to you which one you prefer. You will need a minimum of 7000 euro’s in the account for the main applicant and additional amounts per applicant linked in the visa application.
    • Residual Income and/or Investments is different for each person, you will need documents proving your revenue/passive income/means of subsistence.
    • Or Documents indicating Retirement amount.
  10. You will need to include documents linking you to the main applicant. This is needed if you are going with the main applicant as a dependent. eg. Unabridged Marriage, Unabridged Birth. (This dependent would most likely apply for the D6 Family reunification visa.)

Documents not accepted:

  • Abridged marriage and birth certificates. It needs to be unabridged which means it must have parents details on.
  • Just a Certified copies of marriage, birth, death, or police clearance certificates is not sufficient. DIRCO must apostil the original documents. You must make a copy of all these documents to give to the consulate. You need the original documents on hand to show the consulate which you keep at the end.
  • Certified copies of travel documents or identity documents alone are not enough. You must have the original documents on hand to show them, you keep the originals.
Accommodation Tip:
  • If you struggling to find long term accommodation try Uniplaces. They only issue you a rental certificate for your booking the period. Some consulates do not accept just the certificate. Ask them for a rental contract.
  • I suggest payment only after you have confirmation of the contract.
  • Verify that the unit you are booking will be able to assist with a rental contract.
  • Uniplaces requests this from the owner /manager of the property on your behalf. Ask them to include a 2 months release clause in the contract.
