Things to do in Barcelona

1. LA RAMBLA STREET IN BARCELONA

Most people will think of this famous boulevard when thinking of Barcelona, Spain. “La Rambla” street, take your time to stroll, shop, eat Spanish tapa’s at the market and relish the day. This would be a good time to find those treasured gifts for everyone back home….

It was not my favorite part of Barce but most certainly a TO DO! Watch your pockets though or you might miss your wallet later.

2. La Sagrada Familia , Barcelona Spain

Some History: The BasĂlica de la Sagrada FamĂlia:  translates as the Basilica of the Holy Family and is also known as the Sagrada FamĂlia. After so many years it is still a work in progress. Construction began in 1882 under architect Francisco de Paula de Villar who came before Guadi.

This is the icon of Barcelona, and is one of the most amazing Basilicas in Spain if not Europe. It is different and the message of the detail in the architecture can only be experienced first hand, so don’t miss this one!

It is known as one of Spanish architect, Antoni Gaudi’s most famous “work of arts”. He transformed it combining the original Gothic with Art Nouveau. He made this his life mission and at the time of his death it was less than a quarter complete, needless to say he is buried in the crypt.

His work on the building is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The church was consecrated on 7 November 2010, by Pope Benedict XVI.

Sadly in July 1936, revolutionaries partially destroyed the original plans, drawings and plaster models preserved from Gaudi’s works, slowing down the project. A truly special place so DO BOOK before the time else you won’t get in.

3. Park Geull in Barcelona

Another one of Gaudis works is the Park GĂźell. It is a public park system built in the early 1900’s and opened up as a public park in 1926. Both gardens and architectural works is located on Carmel Hill in the neighborhood of La Salut. You would need to get there by public transport or the red bus, as it is quite a walk…

Lets just say this city belongs to Gaudi! This is his most famous secular building, along the Passeig de GrĂ cia, so you won’t have to walk too far to bump into this beauty.

6. Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona

A stroll in the park, a lovely outing for the whole family and a spot for taking some awesome photos.

Walk under the Arco de Triunfo de Barcelona, one of the many to be found in Europe and further down on the other side you will find the Castle of Tres Dragons, and the Ciutadella Park and more. A breath of fresh air….

WALKING IN BARCELONA – PHOTOS

Barcelona

We stayed just off of La Ramble, and did a lot of walking. We didn’t realize the strange people that would continually whisper “coffee” in our ears, were dealers. Come on Policia they are obvious to spot and approach young teenagers without shame! You cant just enjoy the city carefree knowing this!

I thought they were trying to pick pocket us. It is a very touristy avenue and you feel like you need to watch your back the whole time. This is the part I did not appreciate.

Glad we experienced it all. Many people LOVE Barcelona. Barcelona an either or kind of place .
