There are steps for each document. How to apply for them. Where to apply for them. How to collect them. How to Apostil them and more. Follow the guide below to make sure your documents are correct and ready for your D7 Visa application.
- First Apply & Collect all your documents you may need from the Home Affairs in your area.
- Apply for your Police Clearance at your nearest Police Station.
- ALL these documents need to be sent to DIRCO (Step by step on how to do this below).
- Documents that proves respective training/ experience ( Education/ work experience Not needed for D7 visa but in some cases for work. So thought to add the process for these documents.
- Drivers Licence – Not needed for D7 visa but get it ready as you will need it if visa is approved.
DOCUMENT Steps for each Document needed for your D7 Visa:
1. HOME AFFAIRS DOCUMENTS:
- You need to go to your closest home affairs.
- Fill in a Form to apply for the documents you need. eg: Unabridged Marriage, Unabridged Birth.
- Pay a Fee per document application.
- You will receive a SMS to collect.
- NB: Home Affairs Documents are normally only valid for 3-6 months. If yours expires you will need to redo them. The good news is you don’t need to reapply! Just go to the same HOME AFFAIRS department where you got the original and ask them to reprint it.
2. POLICE CLEARANCE:
- You need to go to a Police Station in your area of residence.
- Fill in the Form to apply for the Police Clearance. (Police Clearance Form) Indicate on the form that Postnet will collect your certificate.
- Take your ID with and proof of payment with.
- They will take a full set of fingerprints.
- They will send your form to Pretoria. If you want to speed up the process you can choose to send it privately via Postnet , your Postnet will know where to send it.
- The Police Department will let you know your Police Clearance certificate is ready via a sms. Let Postnet know that it has arrived for them to collect and take to Dirco for you.
3. DIRCO steps for your D7 visa Documents
What Documents go to DIRCO:
All and ONLY Government issued documents.
- All Home Affairs Docs – ORIGINAL Unabridged Marriage, Unabridged Birth.
- ORIGINAL Police Clearance documents.
- Any ORIGNINAL qualification certificate issued by the government eg. a university or matric, must first be apostilled at DIRCO. Educational Qualifications (Only needed if you are applying for Self Employment visa or for a business application).
How to get your D7 Visa documents to DIRCO for Apostil:
- Dirco is in Pretoria – if you are in the area you can make an appointment and drop them off. It is free.
- The easiest way is to contact POSTNET CBD. The best person for the job is Postnet CBD, contact them and let them know your documents are on the way. Go to the closest POSTNET near you and ask them to send them to Postnet for Dirco.
- They will get it all done for you and explain step by step and they not expensive.

4. Documents of Training and Experience: ( Education/ work experience).
It is proof that you are qualified and capable to accomplish your business activity should you later wish to pursue this avenue.
These documents are anything from dance certificates, to University degrees to certificates of training in a field.
Qualifications by Technicon, High school, University: All government institutions:
Simple steps but time consuming can take anything from 2 weeks to a month.
5. Drivers licence conversion:
This is not needed for your D7 visa application. Original Confirmation Letters as issued (stamped and signed) by the Department of Transport β Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) confirming that the applicant holds a valid driverβs licence. You will need this letter for a smooth transition from South African Drivers licence to Portuguese Drivers.
