Drive from Coast to Inland

The drive to Niksic from the coast was dotted with a little winter snow… It gave some breathless views of mountains, snow and lakes. A lovely drive on a sunny winters day. It definitely made an impression.

Not always a pretty side but a reminder of how far it has come, and how it is changing every day in leaps and bounds. Catching up to the rest of Europe, yet still untouched and raw in its beauty.

A little further from the centre still and you will find the family homes on the outskirts overlooking the mountain views especially beautiful when covered in a winters blanket of snow.

There is a beautiful church, The Cathedral Church of St Basil of Ostrog, that stands watch over Niksic on the one side, with a large cemetery and locals selling their plastic flowers for those that visit.

Standing guard on the other side of the city is what remains of the once castle fortress. The lakes around the area are breathtaking and half the day can be spent here taking in all the sites nature has to offer.

Niksic and the surrounding nature is most definitely worth a visit. Take it slow. As there is no rushing here…
